In my opinion, Judge Marshall’s ruling kind of established the power of the Courts over other branches of the government in interpreting the Constitution. Marbury Vs Madison was a landmark case and all the more important because of the position of the people involved. Judge Marshall was himself the Secretary of State during the Adams regime and now he is hearing a case which pits one of Adams appointments, William Marbury against the present Jeffersonian’s regime. The final ruling of the Judge Marshall, was answered in three parts. The first two parts established the fact that John Madison, Secretary of State in the Jefferson regime was at fault for not passing the commission to Marbury.
